Nut Roll

I L-O-V-E nut roll. Seriously, it is one of the best things to cross my lips. I could eat this entire log. Probably will! Slice a piece off, pop it in the microwave for 10 sec. & top with some softened butter. Oh. My. God. Delicious. It's home.

I just got finished working out for an hour and will consume at least 2 pieces before I get in the shower. What can I say, it's as much a part of my holiday season as Christmas music.

Sigh, thanks Grandma for giving me the gift of Nut Roll.

Thanksgiving is absolutely my favorite holiday. Yea, the presents at Christmas are fun, as are all of the decorations and parties. But Thanksgiving seems a bit easier and yet you get all the same great food and family!

We'll be spending Thanksgiving day with my family and then heading to Cary's parents farm house for the weekend. This year my mom is making the turkey while I'm bringing several side dishes. For several years in the past the turkey was my responsibility. I have pictures of my very first Thanksgiving turkey, made in my single bedroom apartment. I'll never forget putting the bird in the oven and then heading out to church. When I climbed the stairs to my apartment I could hear the buzzers going off and I was so afraid that I had caught the place on fire or worse burned the turkey! Thankfully it was just the timer going off. I was so proud!!

This year I have my grandmothers recipe for yeast rolls, my mother-in-laws fantastic sweet potato casserole recipe, and of course we can't forget the classic green been casserole. When my grandma is in town she always brings Nut Rolls with her and we chow down while the gravy is cooking and the turkey is resting. This year I'm making Nut Roll! I tried back in the spring when I first got the recipe, but it didn't turn out so well. Hopefully I'll have more success this time around.

Speaking of...the yeast is ready and I need to get rolling. It's a long process with lots of waiting for dough to rise and then creating filling, then rolling the nut filling into the dough log. So much work but oh so good!!

Like the Bachelorette!!

Oh how life changes before you realize it. Sweetie invited about 15 guys over tonight for dinner and a social event. I have been cooking since this weekend and we have both been working hard to get the house clean. I had high hopes of showering and doing my hair, applying fresh make up and putting some cute outfit on. Yes, those were just hopes. Reality was that I decided to dust, iron, make more food and before I knew it the time ran out.

So the evening begins and in roll the gentlemen. At one point I opened the door to greet a guest and had a moment of realization. Tonight was like the Bachelorette! My house was filled with extremely attractive men and I am the ONLY woman. Never mind the wedding band, pony tail, expired make up and oh yea, the pregnant belly hanging out in front of me! Just for a moment I basked in the dream of being younger, thin and single. As fast as that thought came, it went. It went because as I looked around I saw my Sweetie. I wouldn't trade him for the world. Especially NOT to be a bachelorette again.

Amazing

Truly amazing. I just finished off a bowl of oatmeal. That's amazing because I hate oatmeal. Over the years I've tried to like it and still came back with the same result, yuck. But this morning I was looking for something to make here at work for breakfast and saw the oatmeal box. Checked out the calories and nutritional information and off I went. Maybe it's b/c I ate it pretty fast and didn't allow myself the time to let the texture throw me.

Oh yea! Sweetie will be proud of this...I even passed up the chance to each home made chocolate cake for my nutritious oatmeal. Now THAT was tough. Don't worry, I'll still have a piece of cake later. :)

Time Change

I JUST remembered the time changed today. So now it's 5:55, instead of 6:55. What to do with the extra hour? The sad thing is that when I get home from work, now it will be dark. :(

My Sweetie...

He has done it again. That is, he has impressed me and made me thankful that he is my husband and not someone else.

I came home this afternoon and quickly got an attitude with him. At what? Nothing in particular. Nothing at least really worth getting an attitude over. As much as I fought it all night long, through church, through a visit with friends, through dinner, I couldn't shake it. I wasn't nasty with him, just miffed and he could tell.

Now get this; we figured out that our cable line was cut this afternoon while some plants were being dug up. That sucks. Definitely didn't help with the poor attitude. But Cary and I have some "standards" in our routine that unfortunately go hand in hand with the TV. The realization of there being no TV just sucked! So while I was in the shower, Sweetie went outside, after 10:00 in 45 degree weather only to try to find the problem. He dug up plants and sure enough found the split wire. I was hanging out the window saying "come in side! it's not worth it!" Of course he didn't listen. I heard rustling around in the crawl space under my feet. I turned every light on trying to give him some help. And finally he said "okay, give it a try." IT WORKED!

When I thought that having cable wasn't worth the effort at 10:00 at night, he did. It was worth it to know that he could provide the repair of our cable line to me. There are a qualities our friends husbands have that Cary doesn't. It's his love, determination, ability to repair & fix things and most importantly his caring is what surpasses any short comings.
